Pool Director Job Description
(Hired annually by the Board of Control)

 

General Description

 

Plan, implement and oversee Swimming Pool activities and Recreation Concession Stands for the city of Delphos, with the assistance and supervision of the Parks & Recreation Superintendent.

 

Work Schedule

 

January begin preparing and planning season with the Parks & Recreation Superintendent. Minimum one thousand hours includes season preparation and full time ninety-day season when pool opens in May, June, July and until pool closes in August.  Additional time may be required if additional events are scheduled. Hours may vary depending on the weather conditions. Record of time to be kept in accordance of Parks & Recreation Superintendent.

Work Duties

Public Swimming Pool & Concession Stand:

  Pre-Sale: Conducts the pre-sale of Family and Single Pool Passes
  Hires the following employees:  (Pool Staff)
 

Head Lifeguard
  Lifeguards
  Gatehouse workers
  Concession Stand workers
 
  Conducts Pool Staff orientations and employment paperwork.
 

City Policies – Time Clock, Pay Periods and Checks, Workers Compensation Policy, Personal Appearance, Absenteeism and Tardiness
  All Federal, State, Municipality and local paperwork
  Distributes safety policies
 
  Training of Pool Staff:
 

Pool and concession stand rules.  Enforcement of the rules
 
  Requires and submits all certifications of lifeguards to Park Superintendent.
  Orders swimsuits and uniforms for Pool Staff.
  Conducts the training of Pool Staff to include CPR and First Aid.
  Conducts routine checks on all Pool Area & Concessions safety equipment.
  Conducts practice training sessions with local Fire and EMS departments.
  Prepares work schedules for all Pool Staff.
  Order and maintain all inventory items:
 

First Aid
  Chemicals
  Concessions
  Pool Area
 
  Maintaining a quality First Aid Station and the recording of accidents.
  Cancellation of activities within the pool due to weather or safety concerns.
  Oversee and make recommendations to the Parks Superintendent for the following within an appropriate time coordination:
 

Maintenance of buildings and equipment
  Over/Under stocked inventory items
  Over/Under scheduling of employees to meet needs of public
  All activities within the Pool Managers responsibility, which negatively or positively affect the Parks and Recreation Department and citizens of Delphos
 
  Submits all required record keeping to the Parks Superintendent.
  Perform the following Daily Activities:
 

Check pumps and test water, change/clean skimmer basket, checks slide for safety issues, back wash system when needed
  All opening and closing procedures for pool and concession stand
  Securing of all pool areas at closing
  Minor cleaning of the following:  Pool Office, Concession Stand, Restrooms, Gate House, Pump Room, Locker Rooms and Chemical Room
 
  Training the Pool Bookkeeper to record the following for the Concession Stand:  The balancing of the cash register tape, bank deposits, balance register, prepare deposit slip, complete weekly and auditor reports and balance inventory to daily receipts.
  Train Concession Stand employees to daily inventory all items.
  Receives complaints from the public, investigates and resolves problems in the best interest of both the public and the city of Delphos, with the assistance from the Parks Superintendent.
  To perform duties effectively and efficiently within the guidelines of the Pool and Concession Stand budget.

 

Normal Employment Standards

Graduation from High School or General Education Development Certificate.

Currently certified as Life Guard and in Lifesaving, First Aid, Cardiopulmonary.
Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).


Required knowledge, abilities and skills

Ability to work well with others, ability to problem solve and be confident with your decision making process.  Record keeping, scheduling and organizational skills.  Ability to operate and maintain pool equipment, pumps, filters systems, computer, keep pool records and work with pool chemicals.


Special Requirements

Must have a valid drivers license issued by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
Must be bondable.
